- Domestic Greywater Reuse: Overseas Practice and its Applicability to
Australia Barry Jeppesen and David Solley, Brisbane city council. Research
Report No. 73, March 1994. Urban Water Research Association of Australia,

5816, fax 615 4408. This is the most substantive report on greywater in Australia.
It has a wealth of information of greatest interest to regulators wondering
what to do about greywater in their jurisdiction, including: detailed information
on water use, greywater sources and quality, microbiological and chemical
properties of greywater, soil considerations, irrigation needs, possible effects
of widespread greywater use on public works, and design considerations. There
is relatively little here for the individual or contractor.

self contained greywater system that is designed to collect and reuse all
of the household's greywater. The system incorporates a fiberglass container,
filters with an automatic backwash to sewer, option to disinfect, electronically
operated valves and effluent pumps. Estimated cost $1500.
- Clivus Roughing Filter, Clivus Multrum, C/o 1/26 Argon Street, Sumner
Park QLD 4074. The roughing filter removes grease, hair, food, lint, and other
matter etc. from the total household greywater flow allowing it to be diverted
for reuse/recycling. Clivus also markets a stretch filter greywater system.
Estimated cost $400.
- Drain Diverter, Mr. Bill Temby. C/o PO Box 33, Oaklands Park SA 5046,
The Drain Diverter is a device that can be installed beneath fixtures. By
rotating the fixture's outlet grate, the flow can be diverted either to the
sewer or for reuse. Estimated cost: less than $100.
- Deks Water Saver, Deks Industries Pty LTD, C/o PO Box 569, Bayswater
Victoria 3153. This product was released in Victoria during droughts of the
1980's. The Deks Water Saver is a soft rubber funnel that can be inserted
into the inspection opening of an existing waste pipe. When connected to a
hose the fitting diverts the greywater for garden use. Estimated cost. $10.
- Sullage Diversion Valve, Canmas partners, C/o Daniel Cantore pH (07)
2063726, Redlands Shire, QLD. The diversion valve is a simple pvc device that
can be installed beneath some existing fixture, such as a laundry tub, to
allow manual diversion of flow for reuse/recycling. Estimated cost. Less than
$100.
- H2ydrosave, Wastewater Management Systems Pty LTD, C/o Ron Bishop
(074) 911 422, PO Box 231, Caloundra QLD 4551. The H2ydrosave is a fully automatic
greywater system for flushing toilets. Cost $1,600.

- California Assembly Bill 313, signed into law 10/16/95, requires
the California Department of Health Services to develop guidelines for multifamily
and commercial greywater systems by January 1st, 1997. It may take six months
or a year more to actually get into the plumbing code. As part of the public
review process, some of the smaller problems with the rest of the law may
be fixed. To check on the current status or provide input, call the State
Board of Water Resources at 916 327-1620.
